What Is Double Sided Transfer Tape?
Double sided transfer tape — also called adhesive transfer tape — is a layer of pure pressure-sensitive adhesive supplied on a release liner, with no carrier film in between. When applied, only the adhesive transfers to the parts, leaving an extremely thin, conformable, almost invisible bond line.
Because there is no carrier, transfer tape is ideal for bonding thin or flexible materials, laminating layers, and any joint where added thickness or a visible edge would be a problem.
Transfer Tape Grades & Indicative Specifications
Adhesive transfer tapes are selected by adhesive chemistry (acrylic for durability, modified for low-energy surfaces) and coat weight. Values below are indicative — request the data sheet for your substrate.
| Property | Indicative Range |
|---|---|
| Construction | Carrier-free PSA on release liner |
| Adhesive | Acrylic or modified acrylic PSA |
| Thickness | ~0.05 – 0.25 mm (adhesive only) |
| Bond line | Very thin, conformable, near-invisible |
| Formats | Rolls and die-cut parts, custom widths |
Applications of Adhesive Transfer Tape
Transfer tape is used where a thin, clean bond is essential: mounting graphics, labels and nameplates, laminating foams, foils and films, bonding flexible electronics and membrane switches, paper and print converting, and joining gaskets and trim. It is a core product for tape converters and OEM assembly lines.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is double sided transfer tape?
Double sided transfer tape is a layer of pure adhesive on a release liner with no carrier film. Only the adhesive transfers to the parts, leaving a very thin, near-invisible bond line.
What is the difference between transfer tape and double-sided tape?
Standard double-sided tape has a carrier film (PET, tissue, foam) between two adhesive layers. Transfer tape has no carrier — it is adhesive only, giving the thinnest possible bond.
When should I use adhesive transfer tape?
Use transfer tape when added thickness or a visible edge is a problem — mounting graphics, laminating thin films, bonding flexible electronics, or converting paper and labels.
What adhesives are available for transfer tape?
Common options are general acrylic for durability and modified acrylics for low-surface-energy plastics. The right adhesive depends on your substrate — contact us for a recommendation.
Can transfer tape be die-cut?
Yes. Adhesive transfer tape is supplied in rolls and can be die-cut into custom parts for automated or manual assembly.
